A social innovation with elderly

Talk down

memory lane

About us

Our roots

We started as 'just' being three university students of the Social Innovation Project class of 2018, now we have our own initiative that we created together with elderly to open up the floor for them to talk freely about childhood memories, family members, backgrounds and even loss.
Through this website we are trying to take our idea further into the world, and to connect more elderly to each other and to the volunteers that work with them.

Roadmap

Gather volunteers: the best results are made when there is one volunteer per elder! Elderly who are still physically able to draw can draw without help, but try to get as many volunteers as possible so they can ask guiding questions

Download and print the template. Every page should provide enough space for one elder to draw his/her memories. Do not cut out the cards yet!

Have the elder draw their memories. Ask them about their lives, families, hobbies as a kid, pets, where they used to live etc. Assist those who struggle drawing. Drawing for them is still an effective way to process their memories. The goal is to talk about the memories and to have them visualized.

Take the sheets and make photocopies (preferably in colour). After this the cards are ready to be cut, folded and glued together.

Play the game! Remember to have the elderly talk about the memories on the cards once a pair has been found.
